Rajinikanth as a beggar!

In his recently released biography, The Name is Rajni, there is an interesting anecdote. The actor was so overwhelmed by his film Sivaji's success that he wanted to visit a temple in Bangalore. But his friend warned him that his being there would cause a stampede.

To avoid this, Rajni decided to go there in a disguise... dressed in a crumpled shirt and a simple veshti, and a shawl to cover his head. A dental prosthetic in place, the actor limped towards the temple disguised as an old man!

So authentic was his appearance that a lady at the temple mistook him for a beggar and gave him a 10-rupee note! The actor for once did not show his surprise but continued his act. He went into the temple, took the Lord's blessings and even dropped a Rs 100 note in the hundial. When the lady saw this, she was shocked. Imagine her surprise when she saw Rajini get into a posh car after the darshan. She apologised profusely and even wanted to take back the money she'd given him.

But the superstar, humble as he is, said that it was God's way of telling him however rich and famous he got, he was still a beggar at the feet of the Almighty. He’s kept the note with him as his most cherished possession.

Arjun joins Rajini in Robot

We'll never know for sure who's on and who isn’t until Shankar decides to make a statement about the cast for his magnum opus Robot!

What we know for sure is that Rajinikanth will play the lead. But who will fit in the heroine's shoes remains to be seen. Even the villain's role and the other supporting characters have not been decided. The longer the silence, the stronger and stranger the assumptions!

Best of Tamil cinema in 2007

The latest to join the winding list of Robot rumour is king of action Arjun, who apparently has been roped in for a pivotal role in the movie.

Will Arjun sport an anti-hero guise? His earlier ventures with Shankar were massive hits. Let's wait and watch!
